With Thanksgiving right around the corner, one of our latest projects, an Argentine grill, came to mind and we just had to share!
Have you ever eaten meat cooked in an Argentine style? An Argentine grill refers to a traditional method of grilling meat that is particularly popular in Argentina. It typically involves cooking meat over an open flame, often using wood or charcoal as the heat source. This method imparts a distinct smoky flavor to the meat.
An Argentine Grill is Called a Parilla
The grill itself is called a parrilla and often has an adjustable height feature, allowing the cook to control the distance between the meat and the flames. High-quality cuts of meat, particularly beef is used on the parilla. Popular cuts include asado (ribs), entraña (skirt steak), vacío (flank steak), and chorizo (sausage). These cuts are often seasoned with simple ingredients such as salt and sometimes chimichurri sauce.
Argentine Grilling is a Social Event
If you are ever invited to an Argentine grill out, you must do it! The grilling process in Argentina is a slow and social event. Friends and family gather around the grill, also known as an asado, and enjoy the process of cooking and eating together. So prepare to hang out and sip wine with others as the feast is grilled.
Argentine grilling is not just a cooking method; it’s also a cultural and social tradition deeply ingrained in Argentine society. Asados, or barbecue gatherings, are common and are a time for people to come together, share good food, and enjoy each other’s company.
You can be assured that the recent addition of this stunning Argentine Grill to the flagstone patio will be fired up and slowly cooking a variety of delicious meat at the center of this family’s Thanksgiving celebration!
